Finally Activism I can get Behind.

August 22, 2006

Ben and Jerry’s has a habit of left-wing activism and good ice cream. They are disturbed because the US doesn’t have enough welfare for children. I may disagree with that assumption but the way they package the argument makes it palatable. B&Js is the only activist group which shows any amount of sacrifice for their position. Their positions probably hurt them in sales among conservatives more than it helps them with liberals. They have the courage of their wrong convictions which is noble in a way.

I don’t have a problem with their activism because they are a private company, but their seems to me to be a serious moral problem with a publicly traded company giving charity. This is charity with other people’s money which wasn’t given for that purpose. However, I’ve never seen any reports from that point of view only praise of this practice. Why is that?
